Watercolor for Beginners: Friday, July 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The focus of this class is learning basic watercolor techniques and how to control the
paint to get desired results. This will be accomplished by the instructor, Tory Millar, demonstrating various techniques that are used by watercolorists to create paintings.

The instructor will provide watercolor paper, tape, brushes, pencils and watercolors.
If participants have their own materials, including erasers, please bring them with you.

Each participant will be creating their own watercolor sampler along with the instructor.
The watercolor sampler will have six different sections in which the participants will learn
how to create a variety of effects including: skies with clouds, sunsets, snow, grass,
trees, water, islands and mountains.

The end result of the class will be one sheet of watercolor paper, with six small paintings
on it, which will incorporate all of the above techniques. This sampler can be used in
the future, by participants, to remind them how to create a variety of watercolor effects.

Cost is $20 and class is limited to 15 participants. Register here

Advanced Watercolor: Wednesday, July 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Everyone will provide their own materials:a set of watercolors, at least three brushes (a wash brush 3/4 to 1 inch, a small #1 detail brush and medium brush), watercolor paper, tape (for the edges of the paper), a small cup for water,a pencil, an eraser. Participants should bring their own reference photo of the subject matter they wish to paint (seascapes, landscapes, pictures of their home etc.) or select a plein air view from the TEIA porch or bring their own objects to create a personal still life.

The instructor, Tory Millar, will have examples of watercolors and review perspective and cropping. She will then consult with each person concerning their photo prompt or chosen view and suggest a strategy for beginning their watercolor.

Participants will lightly sketch their subject matter then use various watercolor techniques in a layered progression to complete their watercolor scenes.

The instructor will circulate during the class to answer questions and work with each participant individually, suggesting techniques and problem solving as they create their artwork

Cost is $20 and class is limited to 15 participants. Register here
