CROSS TRAINING AT TEIA: Pilates for Tennis, Sailing, and Fitness
June 24 to August 21 | Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 8 AM | Garman Lounge
Join Peaks Body for this all-level, fun-loving pilates mat class series that is bound to start your day on a high note! The class will be infused with great music, workout rings, and uplifting instruction. Bring your mat or request a complimentary mat rental.

ART CLASSES: Wednesdays in July and August
Whether you like to sketch, doodle, illustrate or paint, we invite you to check out TEIA’s group Art Classes on Wednesdays in July and August. This season, TEIA is pleased to bring back Daisy Braun to teach and newcomer to Peaks Island Deena Ball who will teach a plein air watercolor workshop in August. Check out the TEIA Happenings and the website for more information about adult/youth classes. A modest fee or donation will be requested. Drawing for Fun with Daisy Braun: Wednesday, July 2 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Come join Daisy Braun in several energetic drawing games such as creating new creatures and characters, posing to draw one another in fun and narrative poses, and working on large paper, drawing from observation and imagination. Participants will explore using different pencils, chalk, pastels, markers, and more. Families are invited to view their artist’s creations at 12:45 PM. There is a $50 fee to cover all expenses. Come join Daisy Braun as she guides participants in creating their own comics and characters. Inspiration for the characters and comics will come from fun drawing games, everyone’s imagination and group collaboration. Watercolor Magic with Artist and Teacher Tory Millar: Wednesday, July 23 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Come join Artist Tory Millar to paint independently or to complete a watercolor study of wildflowers or small found objects. If you are new to watercolors, bring yourself and experiment with basic watercolor techniques. Basic supplies will be available. If you are an experienced watercolor artist, please bring your own paints and supplies. There is a $25 fee to cover expenses. Drinks and snacks will be provided. TEIA Plein Air Painting- Simplified with Watercolor Artist Deena Ball: Wednesday, July 30 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Unleash your creativity in the great outdoors by painting in watercolors outdoors with internationally known artist Deena Ball. This plein-air hands-on workshop offers a supportive environment to develop your skills in composition, capturing the changing light, and developing methods and techniques for painting outside. If you are an experienced watercolor artist, please bring your own paints and supplies. Our home base will be The Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association, located about a mile from the Ferry Terminal. Please note that participants need to be able to carry their own equipment. A list of materials will be emailed to you one week before the workshop. Remember—small paintings and sketches are perfect for capturing the day’s essence quickly and conveniently. Art of the Picture Book with Illustrator Shadra Strickland: Wednesday, August 6 from 10:00 am to Noon.
TEIA and the Illustration Institute present “Art of the Picture Book” with Illustrator Shadra Strickland. Shadra studied design, writing, and illustration at Syracuse University and has an M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She won the Ezra Jack Keats Award and the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent in 2009 for her first picture book, “Bird”, written by Zetta Elliott. Her books have received recognition from the American Library Association, Junior Library Guild, and other prominent literary organizations. Shadra currently teaches illustration at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. There is no fee for this workshop. Donations to TEIA are welcome. How to Build a Picture Book with Illustrator LeYuen Pharm: Wednesday, August 13 from 10:00 am to Noon.
TEIA and the Illustration Institute present “How to Build a Picture Book” with award winning children’s book author and illustrator LeYuen Pharm. Born in Saigon, Vietnam she attended the University of California, Los Angeles from 1991 to 1993, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1996 from the Art Center College of Design. After graduation, she worked as a layout artist at DreamWorks Animation from 1996 to 1999. She then quit illustrating and/or writing more than 120 children’s books full-time. LeYuen’s workshop will focus on the literary and visual narrative across sequences. There is no fee for this workshop. Donations to TEIA are welcome.
