The Friends of TEIA Now in sixth year, The Friends of TEIA, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization continues to dedicate itself to raising funds for the support of the youth educational programs at the Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association. The Friends Board of Directors is comprised of all volunteers, and consists of Stephanie Castle, Kathy Hurley, Mike Richards, Tom Bohan, and newly elected members Barbara Hoppin, Jane Hannigan, and Perry Sutherland. Stephanie is currently the President, Kathy the Treasurer, and Mike the Secretary. All funds received by The Friends, except for necessary costs, are used solely to benefit TEIA youth educational programs for the children on Peaks Island. This year, The Friends invited other islanders to join them in their mission to improve the lives of island children through sailing, tennis, and other educational programs at TEIA, and we welcome their insight and energy. We had a huge boost from the Virginia Wellington Cabot Foundation Grant, which allowed the purchase of two new Laser sailboats for the TEIA Sailing Program, adding another exciting class of boats in the popular program and increasing the number of children that can participate. We also provided funding for three new Opti-class boats using gifts to Friends and the Gulliver Memorial Funds in memory of Bea Gulliver. Your generous donations will allow us to offer more scholarships to island children who would otherwise be unable to learn the art and science and pure joy of sailing. The Friends also offers scholarships for the Tennis Program, which provides lessons to children, and for the Kids’ Camp for children ages 6-and older. In fact, we are working on identifying island children that would benefit from one or all programs, and we ask that you give your ideas to Barbara Hoppin, who is coordinating this effort. Our goal this year is to offer at least a dozen scholarships totaling approximately $3000. If you are able to support The Friends of TEIA, please send your tax deductible donation to the following: Friends of TEIA PO Box 87 Peaks Island, Maine 04108
